BAKSTAAN GAME LODGE is in the northern part of South Africa. It is located approx. 450 km north of Johannesburg and approx. 40 km south of Messina which is 15 km south of the borderline to Zimbabwe. For foreign clients the nearest international airport is Johannesburg International. From there you can reach BAKSTAAN GAME LODGE in one of the following ways: By plane We have our own airstrip at BAKSTAAN GAME LODGE, which enables you to fly directly from Johannesburg International to us. We will arrrange a flight for you at a very competitive rate. We can pick you up We can fetch you from any Southern African Airport at a nominal rate. Rent a car and drive yourself We are situated right next to South Africa's main national highway, the N1, so we can easily be reached by road from any destination in South Africa. We are approx. 450 km from Johannesburg and approx. 2000 km from Cape Town. Please consult with our manager before deciding which way of travel you choose.
Vaccines and prophylactics This is a healthy area and risk factors are low, but prevention is better than cure. We are situated in a low risk malaria area so you may consult your doctor to prescribe the necessary medications.
Electricity South Africa uses 220 V. So please bring your adapters. Hair dryers will be provided so do not stress too much about that.
Drinking Water Water is from boreholes and is very safe to drink and use. There are no factories or mines in the area so no contamination can take place.
Climate and temperature The weather in South Africa is excellent with lots of sunshine all year round. It is recommended to bring comfortable clothes for both hot and cold conditions, as the mornings can be cold and the afternoons can sometimes be extremely hot. Hats, eye protection and sunscreen are recommended, especially if you are fair skinned or susceptible to sunburn. Very comfortable walking boots or shoes are essential. |
